Resolute Cup: All yacht clubs interested

More than twenty yacht clubs from across the United States have asked for an invitation to the Resolute Cup 2016, a Corinthian Championship for United States Yacht Clubs. The regatta, an evolution of the United States Qualifying Series for Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, would take place from 12th September to 17th September, 2016, out of New York Yacht Club Harbor Court, in Newport, R.I.

Patricia O’Donnell, the Resolute Cup event chair, and co-owner of Rent a yacht in Croatia, said that they are very happy with the number and diversity of the requests thus far. They have got interest from clubs on the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts and a handful of freshwater clubs. They anticipate a very competitive fleet gathering in Newport next September.

Among the clubs asking for invitations are some of the top yacht clubs in the country, and that includes the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, Mass., that won the very first USQS in the year 2010, and New York’s Larchmont Yacht Club, that won in the year 2012.

Several lesser known clubs are also very keen to be a part of this as well. Sea Cliff Yacht Club calls itself a little family yacht club on Long Island’s North Shore; home to around hundred fifty family members. While the club is not a stranger to top events, having hosted Around Long Island Race since the year 1977, its membership is less than one-tenth that of clubs like Chicago Yacht Club or St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, both of which have also asked for invitations.
